Sleeping under the Moonlight
Historic house turned into an eco-friendly tribute to pre-Columbian cultures
Ecological and social concept
For the reconstruction of the building and the establishment of the restaurant were used as far as possible natural construction and equipment materials. These include natural lighting and ventilation, hot water production with solar panels, avoiding harmful cleaning agents and waste, as well as a recycling system.

Our cultural and artistic concept is a contribution to the recognition of the valuable indigenous cultures of Costa Rica. Their philosophy is based on the unit of nature and humanity. "Dat Tebej" in Brunca, the language of those who lived before the Spanish conquest in the central area of San José.

Restaurant Luna Roja
Red Moon
The Luna Roja – the red moon of the lunar eclipse – is a positive spiritual symbol signifying a long-desired real change in awareness. It is the key to an evolution of the world, an epochal change towards a better humanity. Some believe that the lunar eclipse “enforces change processes that literally detach us until we reach a better consciousness – more mature and solidary. The word key stands for “renovation”.
The restaurant Luna Roja offers a variety of regional plates – traditional but still innovative. Creative dishes inspirit the Costa Rican identity and give it a modern touch. In line with our philosophy we source our ingredients locally and pay particular attention to quality.
Our menu brings together traditional and regional dishes with the influences of our country’s history. You will find the seafood soup of Costa Rica’s harbors, the Caribbean sauce, “arroz con pollo” and “pierna de cerdo” prepared according to traditional recipes of the central highland and the countryside, but also innovative plates such as sirloin in coffee sauce or the avocado, coconut or tamarind sauces.
