Urban culture & gastronomy. San Jose, Costa Rica

Sleeping under the Moonlight

Historic house turned into an eco-friendly tribute to pre-Columbian cultures

Ecological and social concept

For the reconstruction of the building and the establishment of the restaurant were used as far as possible natural construction and equipment materials. These include natural lighting and ventilation, hot water production with solar panels, avoiding harmful cleaning agents and waste, as well as a recycling system.

Cultural and artistic concept

Our cultural and artistic concept is a contribution to the recognition of the valuable indigenous cultures of Costa Rica. Their philosophy is based on the unit of nature and humanity. "Dat Tebej" in Brunca, the language of those who lived before the Spanish conquest in the central area of San José.

Central & without stress

This district of San José is characterized by neo-colonial villas, quiet streets, and green squares and is now a popular place for galleries, cafés and restaurants with a rich gastronomic offer, and only 10 minutes walk from the Centre of the capital with its cultural centers, parks, museums and shopping streets.

You find Boutique Hotel Luz de Luna - Dat Tebej on the “Paseo Gastronómico La Luz” in San José, district of Escalante, on calle 33 “ La Luz”, between avenidas 3 & 5. The Lunar Complex

Two local gastronomic experiences to die for

The Café In The Moon!

The Café In The Moon completes the trilogy. It is a cozy place that invites our guests to enjoy a cup of coffee, Costa Rica’s grain of gold. Our coffee is grown nearby in the highlands of Vulcano Poás, dark roasted and of high quality. The ambience merges modern with rustic and creates a bohemian experience on the Paseo Gastronómico La Luz.

At night the café tuns into a Snackbar (Tapas) and offers a very good selection of wine and beer. Our offer recovers Costa Rican identity with traditional snacks such as tamales, biscochos and pionos as well as pastries and sandwiches of high quality. Besides wine and beer our drink menu also offers a variety of interesting cold and hot coffee beverages, different teas and fresh juices.

Restaurant Luna Roja
Red Moon

The Luna Roja – the red moon of the lunar eclipse – is a positive spiritual symbol signifying a long-desired real change in awareness. It is the key to an evolution of the world, an epochal change towards a better humanity. Some believe that the lunar eclipse “enforces change processes that literally detach us until we reach a better consciousness – more mature and solidary. The word key stands for “renovation”.

The restaurant Luna Roja offers a variety of regional plates – traditional but still innovative. Creative dishes inspirit the Costa Rican identity and give it a modern touch. In line with our philosophy we source our ingredients locally and pay particular attention to quality.

Our menu brings together traditional and regional dishes with the influences of our country’s history. You will find the seafood soup of Costa Rica’s harbors, the Caribbean sauce, “arroz con pollo” and “pierna de cerdo” prepared according to traditional recipes of the central highland and the countryside, but also innovative plates such as sirloin in coffee sauce or the avocado, coconut or tamarind sauces.
